Message from the Mayor

Good Day Residents!

I hope everyone has survived the nasty winter!  I am so ready for Spring and Summer!

As of December 17, 2014, our new water treatment plant was up and running!  The village is now self-sufficient with its own water source!  It was a long, tedious and often painful process but one that was worth the wait!  I have received several calls stating residents are enjoying  having better water pressure and better tasting water!  We still have some finishing touches to take care of when the weather cooperates, such as seeding and landscaping.  We will have an open house to show off our new plant soon.

I am applying for CDBG funding to replace fire hydrants along St. Rt. 256 and replace water valves throughout the village.  There will also be valves installed where we currently don’t have them.  This is important for managing our water system.

I need all residents who have a live well on their property to notify our office.  If you have a “record of abandonment” document, I will need to see proof of that to meet Ohio EPA regulations.

Spring is soon upon us and we will begin enforcing junk vehicle and property nuisance laws.  Please be sure that all your vehicles are properly licensed and are in running condition.  If they are not, they cannot be kept on your property.  These are considered “junk vehicles”.  Also be sure to keep your property free from trash, piles of junk, rubbish and garbage.  It’s everyone’s responsibility to keep their property in good condition.

We are also having problems with people driving up into the village cemetery.  This is not only lack of respect, it is prohibited!  If you see anyone doing this, please call the Sheriff’s office.  If you are doing this, please stop.  You may park in the driveway and walk to the cemetery.

We still have a vacant seat on council and three empty seats on the Board of Public Affairs.  There is also an empty seat for a representative from Thurston on the Walnut Creek Sewer District Board.  There are lots of opportunities for you to help us make this village a great place to live and raise a family.  If you’re interested, please call our office for details, or come to the next Council meeting.  Your help is greatly appreciated!

Until Next time:

Mary M Boring
